CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard wrapped up their season series against Penn at home, sweeping the Quakers in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
Harvard opened the day with a 9-5 victory against the Quakers.
Allison O'Heany,
Lael Ayala and
Finley Payne each scored two runs, while
Priyanka Kaul and
Sophie Sun led the game with 3 RBIs each.
The day ended with the Crimson coming from behind to best the Quakers 7-5 in game two.
Finley Payne scored two runs and
Nicolette Hunter had two hits and no runs on 55 pitches.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:
Junior
Katie Arrambide and first-year
Nicolette Hunter split time in the circle in game one. Arrambide grabbed one strikeout in six at bat and Hunter grabbed seven in 23 at bat.
After three scoreless innings for the Crimson, they faced a 4-0 deficit, however, in action-packed fourth and fifth innings, the Crimson scored nine runs.
To begin the bottom of the fourth,
Priyanka Kaul hit a sacrifice-fly that allowed
Finley Payne to run home to start scoring for the Crimson. Shortly after,
Sophie Sun hit a triple that allowed
Lauren Bobowski,
Lael Ayala and
Allison O'Heany to run in. In the next at bat,
Madi Mays singled to right-field, bringing Sun home.
At the bottom of the fifth, Kaul was successful at bat again, this time sending a double down the line at left field to let
Maya Douglas and Payne run in. A Bobowski double and sacrifice fly by Mays brought in one more run each, bringing the final score for game one to 9-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO:
Scoring in game two started at the bottom of the second, when
Maya Douglas stole home to score. Bobowski hit a single to left field, allowing O'Heany to run in, giving the Crimson a 2-0 start.
Douglas struck again when she hit a double to right center in the third, bringing in Payne.
After the Quakers went grabbed a run in the fourth and went on a four-run scoring-run in the fifth, the Crimson were down, 5-3. However, a
Savannah Fitzpatrick triple in the bottom of the sixth tied the score at 5-5.
Fitzpatrick ran in after the next at bat and Payne scored after Kaul hit a single to end scoring for the Crimson.
Anna Reed pitched four innings with one run on one hit and one strikeout with 12 at bat.
Nicolette Hunter pitched 2.2 innings with no runs on two hits and one strikeout in 10 at bat.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- Hunter was stellar in the circle, grabbing eight strikeouts across the two games. Her seven strikeouts in game one is a career-high.
- Kaul had a career-high three RBIs in game one.
- Sun leads the Crimson in RBIs and brought up her total to 28 with three from game one.
- The Crimson scored 16 runs on the day between two games.
