Men's Golf Finishes in Third-Place at Ivy League Championship

WATCHUNG, N.J. - The 2023-24 season has come to an end for Harvard men's golf, who capped off the year with a third-place finish at the Ivy League Championship tournament this weekend at Watchung Valley Golf Club. The Crimson made a late push but could not catch the leaders on the final day of the tournament. Senior captain, Brian Ma, came away with a third-place finish at the tournament to add another medal to his already packed trophy case and bring an end to his illustrious Harvard career.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Harvard men's golf team traveled to the Watchung Valley Golf Club looking to capture the Ivy League Championship. Brian Ma, Kevin Sze, Jeff Fang, Jonathan Hartono and Adam Xiao made up the Crimson starting five.
  • The Crimson finished round one with a team score of 291 and would sit in fifth place after 18 holes of action. Ma led the way with an even-par round of 71 while Fang (+1, 72), Hartono (74, +3) and Xiao (74, +3) all contributed to the mark. Ma carded a one-under 35 on the front and Fang carded an even-par 35 on the back to post the lowest nine-hole scores on day one.
  • Harvard made a big move on day two to move into third-place overall with a team score of 285. Once again it was the senior Ma who led the team with a three-under score of 68 in the second round. Fang (-1, 70), Hartono (E, 71) and Xiao (+5, 76) all combined to put the Crimson within striking distance. With a combined score of three-under, Ma was only three shots back of the individual leader at the end of day two.
  • On day three, Ma started off hot, posting another four-under on the front nine that put him tied for second-place heading into the last nine holes. The senior would finish in third-place after finishing the round with a 68 (-3). Hartono posted a one-under 70, Fang shot a one-over 72 and Sze carded a three-over 74 to contribute to the Crimson's final round score of 283.
  • The Crimson's final push was not enough to overcome Princeton and Yale - the eventual champion - as the group came away with a third-place finish.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior captain, Brian Ma, finished in third-place individually with an overall score of seven-under-par (206), just two shots back of the individual champion.
