Late Rally Lifts Softball to Win Against Dartmouth

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three runs in the fifth and sixth innings pushed Harvard softball to its third Ivy League series victory of the 2024 campaign, as the Crimson rallied to defeat Dartmouth, 4-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Soldiers Field.

Three different Crimson pitchers worked together to hold the Dartmouth offense to two runs and six hits, the Big Green's lowest run total since Mar. 30. At the plate, senior outfielder and team captain Lauren Bobowski drove in two runs, her fourth multi-RBI effort this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The visitors grabbed the opening run in the first inning, scoring on an RBI-triple down the left field line, 1-0.

After a scoreless second inning, the Crimson (15-13, 6-6 Ivy League) tied the contest in the third inning. Swinging on the first pitch, first-year outfielder Audrey Szollosi drove a pitch to deep left field for a leadoff triple, the first of her Harvard career. In the next at-bat, Bobowski grounded out, driving in the tying run, 1-1.

In the fourth inning, Dartmouth (9-12, 5-4) regained the lead. With the bases loaded, the Big Green hit a line drive single to left field, producing the go-ahead run, 2-1.

The Crimson battled, taking its first lead of the game in the fifth inning. With Bobowski on second, the reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week and first-year infielder Sophie Sun drove home the tying run with an RBI-double, 2-2. Harvard jumped in front in the next at-bat, as sophomore infielder Finley Payne hit a sharp groundball to shortstop, allowing Sun to reach home safely, 3-2.

Harvard's bats found more success in the sixth inning, doubling its advantage. With runners on first and second, Bobowski sent an RBI-single up the middle of the Big Green defense, scoring the Crimson's fourth run of the day, 4-2.

The Crimson offense scored four runs on five hits in the series finale victory against Dartmouth. Sun logs multiple hits in a game for the seventh time this season. In the circle, senior Anna Reed tossed 1.1 scoreless innings to earn her second save of the season.
