PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard softball fought until the end at the 2024 Ivy League Tournament, as the Crimson fell just short against Princeton in the Championship Round.
Needing two wins to clinch the Ivy League Tournament Championship, Harvard raced out to a 6-1 victory against the Tigers to force a winner-take-all game seven. First-Year infielder
Sophie Sun drove in two runs to keep the Crimson's title hopes alive.
In the final contest of the 2024 Ivy League Tournament, Harvard dropped a 1-0 decision against the Tigers. Senior pitcher
Anna Reed was excellent in the circle, allowing only run and five hits over a seven innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Crimson (27-17, 14-7 Ivy League) started fast, manufacturing the opening run of the contest. With one out, Sun ripped a shot to left centerfield, sliding into third base for a triple. On a 2-0 count, junior outfielder and team captain
Savannah Fitzpatrick put down an excellent bunt, reaching first safely and allowing Sun to score, 1-0.
In the third inning, Princeton (29-16, 14-7) scored the tying run, evening the score by reaching home on an infield single, 1-1.
As its done this whole tournament, Harvard battled back, taking control in the fourth inning. After back-to-back singles from junior designated player

Lauren Bobowski worked a walk, loading the bases for the Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year, Sun. On a 3-1 count, Sun slapped a two-run RBI-single to deep left center field, scoring two runs to put the Crimson in front, 3-1.
More runs arrived for Harvard in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, O'Heany drove in a pair of runs, extending the Crimson lead, 5-1. With two outs, sophomore outfielder
Lael Ayala added Harvard's third run of the frame with an RBI-single, 6-1.
The Crimson finished the sixth game of the Ivy League Tournament with six runs on 12 hits, as Sun and O'Heany each drove in two runs. First-Year pitcher
Nicolette Hunter delivered an impressive showing in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing zero earned runs and four hits.
Game two of the afternoon began with Princeton taking an early lead in the top of the second inning, as a groundout allowed a run to score, 1-0. From there, the tournament hosts controlled the rest of the game to secure the win.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- Reed enjoyed a superb week at the Ivy League Tournament. The senior pitched 26.2 innings in four appearances, logging a stellar 1.05 earned run average with eight strikeouts.
- At the plate, Ayala produced several memorable moments. The Atlanta, Georgia native logged seven hits in 13 at-bats, driving in six runs.
- The only student-athlete in Ivy League history to win Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season, Sun drove in a team-high seven runs at the 2024 Ivy League Tournament.
- Under the direction of first-year head coach Jenny Rohn, Harvard posted a 27-17 regular season record, winning a share of the Ivy League Regular Season title.
