Tellado’s Equalizer Helps Men’s Soccer Earn 1-1 Draw with Holy Cross in Season Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore forward Dylan Tellado scored an equalizing goal in the 73rd minute as Harvard University men's soccer earned a 1-1 draw with Holy Cross in its season and home opener on Saturday evening at Jordan Field.
 
Each side scored once in the second half as the Crimson (0-0-1) knotted the score at 1-1 in the 73rd minute after the Crusaders (1-1-1) netted the game's first goal in the 66th minute.
 
Tellado found the back of the net at the 72:38 mark – just seven minutes after Holy Cross scored the opening goal – off assists from senior Marko Isakovic and junior Zachary Sardi-Santos.

Harvard Highlights

  • Sophomore forward Dylan Tellado scored his first goal of the season, his fourth career goal, and first career goal at home. He now has eight career points. Tellado led all players in the match in shots (four) and shots on goal (two).
  • Senior midfielder Marko Isakovic registered his first assist of the season and his 10th career assist. He now has 12 career points.
  • Junior defender Zachary Sardi-Santos notched his first assist of the year and his second career assist.
  • Junior goalkeeper Lucian Wood made three saves in the draw.
  • Among Harvard's field players, seniors Jan Riecke, Ludovico Rollo, and Sam Bjarnason all played the full 90 minutes.
  • For the match, Harvard held advantages in shots (15-6), shots on goal (7-4), and corner kicks (6-3).
  • First-years Alexander Castel, Xavier Tanyi, and Nayan Das all made their collegiate debuts.
 

How It Happened

  • The Crimson generated multiple scoring chances in the first half, including a pair of dangerous corner kicks from sophomore Andreas Savva in the ninth and 14th minutes as well as a strong shot on goal from sophomore Dylan Tellado in the 17th minute.
  • Junior goalkeeper Lucian Wood came off his line in the 35th minute to keep the score level at 1-1.
  • In the first half, Harvard held advantages in shots (4-2), shots on goal (2-1), and corner kicks (3-1).
  • Opening the second half, Wood snagged his second save of the match on a shot following a free kick in the 59th minute.
  • Holy Cross scored in the 66th minute as Evan Jones netted a goal off an assist from Connor Bagdon.
  • Tellado nearly answered in the 67th minute as his shot from inside the box went off the right post.
  • Tellado then delivered in the 73rd minute. After junior Zachary Sardi-Santos sent a ball into the box from the left side, senior Marko Isakovic sent the ball toward the goal before Tellado drove a shot into the left side of the goal.
  • Harvard almost pulled ahead in the final 16 minutes with shots from first-year Xavier Tanyi, Sardi-Santos, and first-year Nayan Das requiring saves.
