CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's volleyball will look to continue its season opening undefeated streak this weekend as it travels to University of Rhode Island for the Art Carmichael Invitational.
Tournament play will begin on Thursday, September 12 at 6:00 p.m. ET as the Crimson battle the host Rams at Keaney Gymnasium and on ESPN+. Harvard will then face Stony Brook and Northern Illinois in back-to-back matches the following day at 1:00 p.m. ET and 4:00 p.m. ET, respectively.
What to Know
- For the second straight season, the Crimson opened its season by sweeping play at the Harvard Invitational, defeating Stonehill, Merrimack, and New Hampshire.
- Prior to last year, the Crimson had not begun a season 3-0 since 2001.
- After strong weekends, Rocky Aguirre, Ryleigh Patterson, and Lindsey Zhang were named to the Harvard Invitational All-Tournament team.
- Aguirre led the team in assists, collecting 109 for 8.38 per set while also adding 11 kills, four aces, 25 digs, and six total blocks. With her 109 assists, the setter now totals 1,155 for her career placing her at 10th all-time in Harvard history.
- Patterson picked up where she left off in her first-year, accumulating 21 kills, two aces, and 13 total blocks.
- While appearing in all 13 sets for the Crimson, Zhang registered a team-best 41 digs while also delivering six aces.
- Brynne Faltinsky began her junior campaign with three statement matches, collecting a team-best 47 kills. The outside hitting posted a new career-best of 19 kills in back-to-back matches including the comeback solidifying slam against UNH.
- Nicole Cornell, Taylor Larkin, Riley Resmer, and Bennett Trubey all made their collegiate debuts this weekend. Resmer was named to the Ivy League weekly honor roll after contributing 17 kills with a .394 hitting percentage and 10 total blocks.
- Harvard will look to pull ahead in the all-time series versus the Rams as the two teams meeting for the fifth time in history. After dropping the first two contests, the Crimson have defeated URI in back-to-back matches, most recently with a 3-1 victory in 2019.
- The Crimson currently trail 2-4 in the all-time series against Stony Brook including falling in 2017, 1-3. Harvard will look to end its two-match losing streak to the Seawolves having last won 3-1 in 2009.
- Harvard's final match up of weekend will be the first ever meeting between the Crimson and the Huskies of Northern Illinois.

Harvard will close out its non-conference slate next weekend as it travels to Delaware State for another trio of matches. Beginning Friday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m., the Crimson will face the Hornets before battling NJIT and George Washington at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively, on Saturday, September 21.
