LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Harvard men's golf continued its Fall season this weekend with a trip to The Lake Placid Club to compete at the Columbia Autumn Invitational. A number of individuals posted impressive results to help the team finish in fourth place in the field of 11 teams. First-year
Barry Zhang was on fire in the tournament and used his strong showing to finish in sixth place and collect his first career top 10 finish.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crimson made its first ever appearance at the Columbia Autumn Invitational and the Lake Placid Club this weekend to compete in its second tournament of the Fall season.
- Harvard started strong in the first round of the tournament, posting a team score of 281 (-3) to slot itself in second place after 18 holes.
- Barry Zhang caught fire in the first round, carding five straight birdies on the back nine to post a 30 on the side. Zhang carded a 67 in the first round and was tied for third at the conclusion of 18 holes.
- Jeff Fang and Jonathan Hartono also had success in the opening round, posting one-over-par rounds of 71 to help Harvard position itself towards the top of the leaderboard.
- William Ma began to find his groove in the second round, carding three birdies en route to a round of two-under 69. Zhang, Jonathan Hartono and Ieuan Jones all shot one-over-par rounds of 72 to help Harvard stay in the mix at fourth place at the end of 36 holes.
- Fang was on a roll in the final round, posting a team-low score of 68 with six birdies. Zhang was not far behind, shooting an even-par round of 71.
- Despite the push in the final round, Harvard would finish just outside the podium in fourth place with a final team score of 852 which was even-par on the Lake Placid Club.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Barry Zhang posted his first career top 10 in the tournament, coming in sixth place finish with a tournament score of three-under-par.
- Jeff Fang used a three-under-par third round to fly up the leaderboards and finish no. 13 in the field with a tournament score of even-par.
- William Ma was also solid in the tournament, coming in at no. 17 in the field with a 54-hole score of two-over-par.
UP NEXT
Harvard will be back in action at the Hamptons Intercollegiate on Oct. 7-8. The Crimson will compete at the Maidstone Club for the second consecutive season when it hits the course next Monday.
