CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --
Marek Hejduk netted the game-winning goal on the man advantage to help deliver three key ECAC points to the Crimson on Friday night. Defensemen
Matthew Morden and
Kyle Aucoin picked up the other two Harvard goals as the Crimson defeated Brown by a score of 3-1 in the first game of the back-to-back.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Joe Miller drew a five-minute major after getting hit from behind early in the first period to put the Crimson on the man advantage. In a very physical first period, Harvard was unable to find the back of the net on its original power-play opportunity.
Matthew Morden opened the scoring for the Crimson after a shot from the circles beat Lawton Zacher for the 1-0 lead. Assisted by
Mason Langenbrunner, Morden's second career goal and first of the season had the Crimson off and running.
Brown would eventually tie the game on a deflection to bring the game to a 1-1 tie after the first twenty.
Marek Hejduk netted the second goal of the game on the power play after picking up a puck in the slot that just beat the Brown netminder. Hejduk's fourth of the season was the second consecutive game for the Crimson with a power-play marker.
The Crimson killed a penalty late in the third period to protect the one-goal lead. Backstopped by stellar goaltending by
Ben Charette,
Kyle Aucoin laid down and blocked a Brown attempt late in the power play to help lead to a successful kill.
Kyle Aucoin netted the insurance marker after hitting the empty net for his first career goal. Assisted by
Zakary Karpa after winning the faceoff, Aucoin fired it off the glass and out, and it slid into the empty net for the third goal of the game.
