Armstrong, Sheppard Pace Skiing on Day One of St. Lawrence Carnival

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – First-year Duncan Armstrong placed 10th in men's giant slalom, and first-year Skylar Sheppard took 18th place in women's giant slalom to pace Harvard University skiing on day one of the St. Lawrence Carnival on Thursday at Whiteface Mountain.
 
Opening the SLU Carnival exclusively with alpine events on day one of the weekend, Armstrong tallied his second top-10 finish in three races this season while Sheppared tallied her second top-20 showing in three races to begin the year.
 
Harvard will continue competition at the St. Lawrence Carnival tomorrow – Friday, Jan. 17 – with alpine competing in the slalom and nordic taking part in the 20k freestyle mass start.

Harvard Highlights: Alpine Day 1 (Thursday)

  • First-year Duncan Armstrong placed 10th in the men's giant slalom behind a 2:11.50 (1:04.77 run one, 1:06.73 run two), tallying 30 EISA points and 26 NCAA points. He notched his second top-10 finish in three races this season after placing fifth in the giant slalom at the Bates Carnival last weekend.
  • First-year Skylar Sheppard came in 18th in the women's giant slalom with a time of 2:17.53 (1:08.00 run one, 1:09.53 run two), totaling 22 EISA points and 13 NCAA points. In run two, Sheppard posted a top-10 time. She registered her second top-20 effort of the year after taking 13th in the slalom at the Bates Carnival a weekend ago.

Next Up

Harvard will continue competition at the St. Lawrence Carnival tomorrow – Friday, Jan. 17 – with alpine competing in the slalom and nordic taking part in the 20k freestyle mass start.
 
For its next carnival, Harvard will compete at the St. Michael's Carnival from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1 with alpine events at Smugglers' Notch in Jeffersonville, Vermont and nordic events at Sleepy Hollow in Huntington, Vermont.
