Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Hockey Drops Contest to Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.– Sal Guzzo scored the lone goal for the Crimson in a 4-1 loss at Union on Saturday afternoon. Trailing 2-1 heading into the third, the Garnett Chargers scored two goals in the third to take a 4-1 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson controlled much of the first four minutes of play and generated multiple scoring opportunities. With the first whistle of the game coming with 16:11 left on the clock, Harvard nearly scored on its first chance of the game after Zakary Karpa and the second line had multiple cracks at a puck in the crease.

Union scored first after finding the back of the net on their first shot of the game. Generating some zone time for the first time in the game, Cullen Ferguson beat Charette after picking up a pass off the wall for the early 1-0 lead.

The fourth line tied it up for the Crimson with 7:30 left in the first period after all three forwards picked up a point on Salvatore Guzzo's second goal of the season. Senior Tommy Lyons threw a puck on net that was blocked before Guzzo picked it up on the slot.

Harvard went 0-2 on the power-play in the first period but ultimately led 14-7 in shots.

Another great period from the Crimson saw it generate multiple scoring opportunities as the offense continued to put pressure on Chauvette. Despite controlling much of the play in the second period, Union regained the lead with just under 3:00 to go.

Union added their third goal of the game after scoring on the power-play just 30 seconds into the period. Union would add another power-play marker eight minutes later to take a 4-1 lead.

GAME NOTES
  • Tommy Lyons added his first career point on the Guzzo goal.
  • Guzzo nets his second goal of the season. Guzzo has two goals in seven games this year. The sophomore did not score in 29 games last season.
