CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Saturday night after goals from
Michael Callow and
Ben MacDonald but ultimately fell to UConn in its fourth non-conference game of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson came out flying in the opening minutes after sophomores
Michael Callow and
Ben MacDonald each scored in the first four minutes to give the Crimson an early 2-0 lead.
Beginning with a defensive zone draw win by
Zakary Karpa, the South Boston native went end to end and picked the corner for his first goal of the season. Callow and Karpa both have points in their last two games.
24 seconds later,
Ben MacDonald corralled a puck in the slot and beat Callum Tung blocker side for his third goal of the year. Assisted by
Joe Miller and
Ryan Healey it was the fastest consecutive goals for the Crimson this season and its best start to date this season.
Near the end of the first period,
Matthew Morden took a holding penalty that the Crimson penalty kill unit successfully killed.
The Huskies scored twice in a minute halfway through the second period to tie the game at two. Harvard regained the lead after a
Casey Severo power-play tally. Assisted by
Joe Miller and
Mick Thompson, Severo netted the first power-play goal for the Crimson since Nov. 9 against Quinnipiac.
UConn scored five goals in the third period including three goals in the first five minutes to win 7-3.
Aku Koskenvuo replaced
Ben Charette after the fifth Huskies goal.
GAME NOTES
- Severo added his team leading sixth goal.
- Harvard allowed its first shorthanded goal in five games tonight.
