CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 25/22 Harvard Football defeated Cornell, 34-10, Friday night on Tim Murphy Field at Harvard Stadium. With the decision, the Crimson stayed perfect on the season, moving to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy League. The Big Red, meanwhile, fell to 0-4 (0-2 Ivy).
How It Happened
- On the fifth play of the game, Cornell quarterback Garrett Bass-Sulpizio pitched the ball back to his running back, who bobbled the ball and could not hold on. Austin-Jake Guillory scooped up the fumble and ran it back 36 yards for the TD (1st, 12:49). The Crimson's first fumble return for a touchdown since Ty Bartrum on Oct. 19, 2024, gave Harvard a 7-0 lead.
- Held scoreless in the first quarter, the Crimson offense ended that streak on its first possession of the second period when Jaden Craig connected with Ben Alvarez for a 2-yard touchdown pass. The 13-play, 52-yard drive, which ate 6:26 of clock, gave the hosts a 14-0 lead with 8:17 left in the half.
- Harvard opened the second half with a 14-0 cushion and possession of the ball. The Crimson went almost exclusively to the run and was able to get to the Cornell 5-yard line before settling for a 22-yard Kieran Corr field goal (3rd, 9:31). Of the 11 plays, eight were runs.
- The Big Red ended Harvard's shutout bid when Bass-Sulpizio scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak. The immediate response to the Crimson's field goal brought the visitors to within 17-7 with 4:55 left in the third.
- Cornell's first possession of the fourth quarter was a successful 25-yard field goal by Jonathan Roost, making it a 7-point Harvard lead with 14:56 left in the fourth.
- Harvard answered the Big Red field goal with a field goal of its own when Corr put his attempt through the uprights from a season-high 30 yards out. The sophomore's boot extended the Crimson's lead to 20-10 with 11:58 in regulation.
- Craig made it a 17-point game when he rushed for a 4-yard touchdown. The senior's first rushing score of the season came with 5:07 left. Then just nine seconds later, Jack Donahoe had a 39-yard pick-6 to provide the final margin.
