Tracey Bird Named Harvard’s Diving Coach

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.Tracey Bird has been named the diving coach for both the Harvard Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving programs. The long-time staff member replaces Matt O'Neill, who took over West Virginia's head diving duties.

A fixture with both Crimson programs the last seven years, Bird will lead the divers after helping several athletes reach the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships and NCAA Championships during her time in Cambridge.

Bird has held multiple roles while at Harvard, first serving as interim diving coach from 2017-19, before moving into a volunteer assistant coach role in 2019-20. After the Ivy League canceled the 2020-21 season due to the global pandemic, Bird became an assistant diving coach in 2021-22. Since the '21-22 campaign, Bird has helped Harvard divers secure NCAA Championship berths in 19 events.

Prior to Bird's time at Harvard, she spent time coaching at the international level, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, at the club level, at the junior college level, and at her alma mater, Stanford, as a volunteer and full-time assistant coach.

A member of the 2014 Eastern Massachusetts Interscholastic Swim Coach Academy Hall of Fame class, Bird earned a bachelor's degree in human biology from Stanford in 1984. While competing for the Cardinal, Bird qualified for the NCAA Championships four times and helped Stanford win the 1983 national title.
