CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's tennis returns to action this weekend as it hosts its annual Harvard Fall Classic. The three-day tournament, running from Friday, Oct. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 5, will feature competition against Boston College, Boston University, and the University of Rhode Island.
What to Know
- Last weekend, Stephanie Yakoff, Charlotte Owensby, and Kavya Karra represented the Crimson at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, N.C.
- Owensby and the doubles team of Yakoff and Karra both registered victories in the pre-qualifying draws.
- Owensby earned a singles victory to open play the following day but fell in the round of 64 to conclude her run and narrowly miss advancing out of the first draw.
- Yakoff and Karra defeated Kansas State's Maralgoo Chogsomajav and Zhanel Rustempva to advance out of the pre-qualifying doubles draw, before narrowly falling in the opening round of qualifying.
- The Harvard Fall Classic marks the first of four consecutive home tournaments for the Crimson this fall. Harvard will also host the ITA New England Regionals (Oct. 9-13), the Ivy League Qualifier Tournament (Oct. 24-27), and the Harvard Fall Invitational (Oct.31-Nov. 2).
- Outside of the three competitors at the All-American Championships, the Crimson also welcomes back five other returns and four first-years.
- Additionally, Karra will make her individual debut this weekend. The junior is poised for another strong season after tallying a team-best 42 total wins in her sophomore campaign.
