CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's volleyball (4-12, 3-5 Ivy) cruised past Columbia (2-16, 0-8 Ivy), 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-13) this evening in the first contest of the weekend.
The Crimson had three hitters in double-digits and hit at a clip of .330 to mark its second-best offensive performance of the season.
How it Happened
The Crimson came out of the gate hot, stealing momentum quickly with a 6-1 advantage. Harvard led by as many as six before a 5-0 Lions run dwindled the lead to one and force a timeout for the home team. The Crimson responded and never saw its lead fully dissipate, ultimately holding on to win the set, 25-22.
Columbia bounced back in the second set exploded on a mid-set run to steal control. The Lions led by as many as eight at 20-12. The Crimson, however, never lost its fight and eventually turned the tables to take the set, 26-24. Columbia led 24-19 before Harvard fought off four set points in a 7-0 run to complete the comeback.
With the momentum of the second set swing the Crimson cruised to an early 9-4 lead in the third set. Harvard maintained its lead for the entirety of the set, leading by as many as 12 and ultimately closing the set with a 25-13 victory.
Harvard Highlights
- Sofia Rossi (11), Ali Farquhar (10), and Brynne Faltinsky (10) each surpassed double-digit kills as the Crimson hit .330 across three sets.
- The Crimson's hitting percentage of .330 was its second highest of season trailing only its .373 hitting percentage against Stonehill.
- Farquhar reached her 10 kills while hitting at an impressive .769 clip recording no errors on 13 attacks.
- Taylor Larkin and Ryliegh Patterson led the way at the net, contributing to five and four blocks, respectively.
- As the primary setter today, Sophia Wei recorded a career-high 27 assists.
- Harvard tallied seven aces in the contest with Wei, Faltinsky, and Rossi each recording two or more.
