CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's volleyball (5-13, 4-6 Ivy) fell to Cornell (13-7, 8-2 Ivy), 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-17), this evening as it wrapped up its back-to-back Ivy League weekend.
How it Happened
The Crimson opened the match with an intense rally to take the first point of the night, setting the tone for a competitive start to set one. Both teams traded points early, but Cornell held a slight edge, allowing Harvard to tie the score twice before pulling ahead with a five-point run to take control. The Crimson responded with a three-point surge to hold the Big Red at 20, but Cornell capitalized on late attack and service errors to take the set, 25-17.
Set two followed in similar fashion. Harvard again struck first before Cornell established a lead it would not let up. The Crimson fought to stay close, using a three-point run to narrow the deficit to three, 20-17, behind key kills from
Sofia Rossi,
Taylor Larkin, and
Ali Farquhar. However, three consecutive Harvard errors allowed Cornell to close out the set, 25-17.
In the third, Harvard started strong with an ace from
Sophia Wei, but after an early 2-2 tie, Cornell regained control and held the lead the rest of the set. The Crimson rallied late with a three-point run but came up just short as the Big Red sealed the match with another 25-17 win.
