Men’s Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision at Penn

PHILADELPHIA – Harvard University men's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision at the University of Pennsylvania at Rhodes Field on Saturday evening in its first Ivy League road match of the season.
 
Competing in its first match in the month of October, the Crimson (3-4-2, 0-2-0 Ivy) fell to the Quakers (4-2-3, 1-0-1 Ivy) as the hosts netted goals in the 17th and 81st minutes.
 
Penn's Malachi Neal scored at the 16:44 mark of the first half before the Quakers' Patrick Cayelli notched the game's final goal at the 80:53 mark.

How It Happened

  • Penn took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute as Malachi Neal scored off an assist from Patrick Cayelli off a corner kick.
  • Savva sent a shot on target in the 22nd minute with an attempt off a set piece.
  • MacNeil made three saves in the first half, turning asides shots in the 27th, 29th, and 41st minutes to keep the Crimson within 1-0 at halftime.
  • The Quakers went ahead 2-0 in the 81st minute on a goal from Cayelli from just outside the penalty area off assists from Erickson Sakalosky and Marco Bottene.
  • Inside of the final eight minutes, the Crimson tallied four shots and five corner kicks before the Quakers held on for the decision.
