CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – College Squash season has arrived as the Harvard men's squash team is set to begin its 2025-26 season this weekend. The Crimson opens its campaign with a road trip to Canada, where it will take on the Western Ontario University Mustangs. The date with Western Ontario will begin the Crimson's chase for more success in 2025-26.
What to Know
The Matchup
Harvard will open its 10-match regular season this weekend when it faces off against Western Ontario on Saturday (Nov. 15). The No. 3 Crimson (0-0, 0-0 Ivy) will play the No. 18 Mustangs (2-0) will compete North of the border in St. Catherine's Ontario, Canada. Western Ontario began its season last weekend with wins over No. 19 Rochester (5-4) and No. 13 MIT (8-1).
Recapping 2024-25
The Crimson secured 10 wins in the 2024-25 season, including three Ivy League victories. Harvard finished in sixth place at the 2025 CSA National Championships after posting wins over No. 11 Dartmouth and No. 7 Drexel at the tournament.
Back in Crimson
Harvard returns six student-athletes to its lineup in 2025-26 including
David Costales and
Denis Gilevskiy, who primarily played at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions on the ladder last season, respectively.
Jacob Lin (No. 4),
Segev Rome (No. 5),
Louis Murray (No. 8) and
Marcus Lee (No. 9) also return to the Crimson lineup after competing in the Harvard lineup regularly last season.
The Crimson lineup will also get a boost from
Omar Azzam and
Ishant Shah, who will be back in the fold after missing significant time last season.
Series History
This will be the 17
th meeting between Harvard and Western Ontario is the series that dates back to the 1977 season. Harvard owns a 15-1 lead in the series history with the only loss coming in the first meeting between the sides in 1977. The foes last met a year ago at the Murr Center, where Harvard posted an 8-1 win. Prior to that meeting, the sides hadn't met since the 2018 season.

Denis Gilevskiy, who joins two-year captain
David Costales in the role for the Crimson. The duo will lead the Crimson on and off the courts during the 2025-26 season.
The First-Years
Harvard retooled this offseason by bringing three new student-athletes into the program. The highly touted group of first-year players hope to make an immediate impact when they make their collegiate debuts this weekend.
Alexander Broadbridge (Fareham, Hampshire, England),
Christian Capella (Tuxedo Park, N.Y.) and
Maddox Moxham (Darien, Conn.) make up the Harvard men's squash class of 2029.
At the Helm
Mike Way, Gregory Lee '87 and Russell Ball '88 Endowed Coach for Squash at Harvard University, returns to lead the Crimson in what will be his 16
th season at the helm of the program. In 15 seasons, Way has introduced a new era of success for the Crimson by posting a 189-41 record – including a 74-13 mark in Ivy League play – while securing seven Ivy League titles and five National Championships.

Harvard will be back on the court this Tuesday (Nov. 18) when it take on MIT in a cross-town showdown. The Crimson and the Engineers will battle for Cambridge bragging rights when the sides meet on the courts at 5:00 PM at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center on the campus of MIT.
