POTSDAM, N.Y. – Third-period goals from Heikki Ruohenen and
Casey Severo lifted men's hockey to a 2-1 win over Clarkson on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In a tightly contested opening period, both teams generated quality scoring chances. Harvard controlled much of the first half of the frame before Clarkson answered with extended zone time late in the period.
Goaltender
Ben Charette stopped all 13 shots he faced as the teams skated to a scoreless first period.
Clarkson broke the deadlock just 40 seconds into the second after a defensive lapse led to a loose puck in the slot. Harvard earned two power-play opportunities later in the period but was unable to convert despite creating several strong looks.
A successful penalty kill to open the third proved to be a pivotal moment and kept the game within reach for the Crimson. With time winding down, Ruohonen weaved through the Golden Knights' defense and buried his first career goal, assisted by
Ryan Healey, to tie the game at 1-1.
In the final minute, Severo threw a puck on net that found its way in for the game-winner-his second straight deciding goal against Clarkson. The two late tallies were enough to give Harvard its second consecutive victory.
