CANTON, N.Y. – A pair of
Philip Tresca goals and stellar goaltending from
Ben Charette was enough to clinch Men's Hockey's first North Country sweep since 2022-23 after a 4-3 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday night.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
The Crimson jumped out to an early lead when
Philip Tresca netted his third goal of the season after finding open ice at the top of the circles. Assisted by
Mason Langenbrunner and
Lucas St. Louis, Tresca's goal put Harvard ahead just 52 seconds into the game.
Salvatore Guzzo added Harvard's second of the period just over five minutes later. Picking the puck off the half wall, the junior scored his second goal of the year in just his third game this season. Harvard carried the 2-0 lead into the break.
Ben Charette was the backbone for the Crimson through the first and second periods, as the sophomore netminder made multiple big saves on Grade-A chances. Charette stopped two breakaways and one partial breakaway over the opening 40 minutes.
Tresca netted his second of the game in similar fashion to give Harvard a 3-0 lead. Assisted by fellow senior
Casey Severo, Tresca picked the corner again off a quick turnover with just under two minutes left in the second. The Saints got one back late in the frame heading into the third.
St. Lawrence picked up where it left off, cutting the lead to one early in the third period.
Fifty seconds later, the Crimson responded with a power-play marker of their own. Starting at the far point, the first unit worked the puck around until three quick passes between
Joe Miller and
Mick Thompson found
Casey Severo open in a soft spot in front to double the lead once again.
The Saints drew back within one and made a final push, but the Harvard defense held strong, including a huge block from
Mason Langenbrunner in the dying seconds.
