Women’s Hockey Upsets No. 10 Yale, 4-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Harvard women's ice hockey posted a signature victory on the road this evening, defeating the Nol. 10 Yale Bulldogs on their home ice. The Crimson (5-3-1, 3-3-1 ECAC) put up four goals to defeat its nationally ranked rival Yale (5-3-0, 2-3-0 ECAC) and secure three points in conference play. Morgan McGathey and Annie Sun scored their first career goals in the first period while Emily Davidson backstopped the effort with a career-high 43 saves in the triumph.

How it Happened

The Crimson began the weekend at the Ingalls Rink tonight with a matchup against the No. 10 Yale Bulldogs. Harvard and Yale renewed its long-standing rivalry inside the Yale Whale in New Haven as each team was looking to add to its conference points total.

Morgan McGathey got the Crimson going early on in the contest with her first collegiate goal just four minutes into the action. The first-year pushed a loose puck underneath the pads of Yale's goaltender to put Harvard up early. Just two minutes later, another Harvard skater recorded her first career goal to boost the Crimson lead to two. Annie Sun lit the lamp for the first time in her career to give Harvard the lead. Emily Davidson was lights out in the first period, making 18 saves in net to preserve the Crimson advantage.

Yale finally got on the board three minutes into the second period, cutting into the Harvard lead and making the score, 2-1. The Crimson weathered a storm of Yale shots in the remaining minutes of the second to carry a 2-1 lead into the final frame. Davidson stopped another 13 Yale shots in the period to increase her game total to 31.

Emi Biotti restored the Crimson's two-goal lead early in the third period, burying a shot from the point. The first-year rifled a shot into the top right corner to make the score 3-1 and give Harvard a huge boost in the final frame. Davidson continued her stellar play down the stretch, making 12 saves in the third period to keep Yale off the board. Emily Hamann provided the exclamation point in the contest, potting an empty net goal with under three minutes remaining in regulation. The tally helped Harvard complete the upset of No. 10 Yale and send the team off with a 4-1 win over the Bulldogs.
