Women’s Basketball Captures Gritty Overtime Win Over Crosstown Rival Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Harvard women's basketball (3-3) captured its fourth straight victory over crosstown rival Boston College (3-3) with a gritty overtime performance.
Led by a 23-point and 13-rebound double-double from Abigail Wright, the Crimson secured a 72-65 victory over the Eagles.

How it Happened

The Crimson opened the contest with a 10-6 advantage in the first quarter but then its offensive production halted and the Eagles went on a run.  By scoring nine of the last 11 points of the frame, Boston College led 18-12.  The Eagles struck first in the second quarter to extend its lead out to eight, but the Crimson then began to chip away.  While holding Boston College to single-digit scoring in the frame, Harvard shifted the momentum and overtook the lead heading into the break.  Entering the locker room, the Crimson held a narrow 27-26 advantage.  Threes from Karlee White and Katie Krupa in the first minute of the second half created more cushion.  The Crimson led by as many as eight at the 4:25 mark.  The Eagles never went away, however, cutting into the lead throughout the final four minutes to trail by just two ahead of the last 10 minutes.  The Crimson held onto its lead for five more minutes before the Eagles took its first lead since the second quarter at the 4:56 mark.  Boston College's advantage never amassed one point as Harvard continuously responded.  Ultimately, the contest was knotted at 59-all at the end of regulation.  Harvard dominated the extra minutes, holding the Eagles scoreless in the first three minutes.  While its defense delivered, gritty play and strong free throw shooting helped the Crimson build a seven-point lead.  Harvard led by as many as 10 in the overtime period and eventually secured a 72-65 victory over its crosstown rival.
