Women’s Basketball Drops Contest Against Alabama at the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Harvard women's basketball (3-4) fell to Alabama (6-0), 80-60, in the opening game of the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship in Nassau, The Bahamas this evening. 

How it Happened

Alabama started the contest with a 7-2 push through the first four minutes before the Harvard offense settled in.  Harvard tallied 13 points the rest of the way to lead 15-13 after the first frame.  Alayna Rocco started the Crimson's attack, knocking down her first two attempts en route to a double-digit scoring day.  Harvard continued to push to open the second quarter, using the first three minutes of action to extend its lead out to six.  Alabama was persistent including pulling ahead on two occasions, but the Crimson responded with buckets from Katie Krupa and Rocco.  Ultimately, Harvard headed into the locker room with a 30-26 advantage.  Free throws from Nina Emnace followed by back-to-back buckets from Krupa gave Harvard its largest advantage of the day and a lead of 37-30 at the 8:24 mark in the third quarter.  Alabama, however, shifted the momentum with a 15-2 run in the next four minutes.  Despite the temporary scoring drought, Harvard remained within two possessions, trailing 52-48 at the end of the third frame.  The Crimson Tide went on to close the game out and win 80-60 with its highest scoring output of the game in the fourth quarter. 

Harvard Highlights

  • Abigail Wright and Katie Krupa each tallied 16 points to pace the Crimson's offense.
  • Wright shot 7-of-15 from the field to record her sixth game of the season in double figures. 
  • Krupa registered her season high by shooting 71.4% (5-of-7) from the field and going 5-for-6 at the charity stripe.  The senior also dished out four assists and recorded two blocks against the Crimson Tide. 
  • Saniyah Glenn-Bello stuffed the stat sheet for the second consecutive game with her first career double-double.  The senior tallied 11 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals against the Crimson Tide.   
  • Alayna Rocco contributed 11 points, going 4-for-4 from the field with three triples in the first half. 
  • The Crimson tallied 16 assists on 22 made field goals in tonight's contest. 
  • The Harvard defense forced the Crimson Tide into its second-highest turnover total of the season with 17.
