CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Men's hockey fell to No. 1 Michigan, 5–1, on Friday night. The Crimson will complete the series with the nation's top team tomorrow night at Bright-Landry, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Michigan scored twice in the opening period to take a commanding lead after the first twenty minutes. Goaltender
Ben Charette made several strong stops in the frame as the Wolverines pushed hard out of the gate. Defensively, Michigan was able to keep the Crimson in check throughout the period.
Harvard came out with more pace in the second and generated multiple good looks from
Salvatore Guzzo,
Donato Bracco, and
Ben MacDonald as it looked to get back into the game, but the Michigan netminder continued to hold strong.
The Wolverines added another goal on the power play to extend the lead to 3–0, marking the first power-play goal allowed by the Crimson penalty kill this season.
Michigan tacked on two more in the third period to seal the deal.
Will Hughes scored the lone goal for Harvard, jamming home his first of the season from the side of the net to make it 4–1. Assisted by
Marek Hejduk, Hughes' tally marked the fourth line's fifth goal of the year.
