Men's Hockey Scores Three Straight to Force OT, Falls to No. 1 Michigan

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Crimson scored three straight goals in the third period to force overtime against No. 1 Michigan but fell to the nation's top program, 4-3, on Saturday night to conclude the weekend series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson and Wolverines skated to a scoreless first, with the Crimson leading in shots after the opening twenty minutes of action. In an even first period, Harvard had multiple good looks on the power play but was unable to convert.

The pace remained the same coming out of the break, with both teams pushing to find the first goal. In the opening ten minutes of the period, Harvard generated multiple scoring chances, but all were denied by the Michigan netminder.

The next ten minutes were controlled by Michigan, who found the back of the net three times in a very physical period.

The Crimson came back from the intermission trailing by three and eventually found some pace. Starting with a Salvatore Guzzo deflection, the fourth line gave Harvard life with just under 13 minutes to play.

The power play also came to life after the Guzzo marker, as Philip Tresca picked the corner off a blocked shot to cut the Michigan lead to one. Assisted by Ryan Healey and Mick Thompson, Tresca's sixth of the season was a big one for Harvard, who started to control all the momentum.

Ryan Healey tied the game two minutes later on the power play after another blocked shot found its way back to the point, as Harvard scored three unanswered goals to tie the game. Healey, who netted his second goal of the season on the play, completed the comeback late in the game.

Joe Miller had a chance late in the period to put the Crimson in the lead, but an incredible save by the Michigan netminder sent the game to overtime.

In overtime, Richard Gallant had another grade-A chance, but another solid stop sent the Wolverines in transition. Michigan was awarded a penalty in overtime and converted to win the game 4-3 and sweep the series.
