ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Harvard women's basketball (1-1) dropped its first contest of the season as it fell to No. 13 Michigan (1-0), 84-55, at the Crisler Center.
How it Happened
The Crimson and the Wolverines traded buckets in the opening three minutes, notching the contest at 7-7. Michigan's pressure kicked in, however, as it exploded on a 17-0 run and led 24-7 at the end of the first frame.
Harvard broke its field goal drought at the 8:27 mark, as
Abigail Wright dropped in a bucket off an offensive board. Wright ignited the offense with the first six points of the quarter and the Crimson defense held Michigan scoreless through the first four and a half minutes to cut the deficit to 13. Back-to-back buckets increased Michigan's lead back out to 18 however. Harvard kept pressuring in the quarter as it doubled its scoring output from the ten minutes prior. The Wolverines lead dwindled as low as 10 before a 6-0 quarter-ending run had Michigan in front 40-24 at the half.
The Wolverines continued to fend off the Crimson throughout the second half, matching each Harvard bucket with more of their own. Michigan ultimately closed out the contest with an 84-55 victory on their home court.
