Harrington Advances to Day Two Placing Rounds to Lead Wrestling at Cliff Keen Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Senior Jimmy Harrington tallied three wins at 157 pounds on Friday to earn a spot in the placing rounds on Saturday to lead Harvard University wrestling on day one of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational at the Westgate Hotel Paradise Event Center.
 
Harrington won each of his first two matches and added a win in the blood round in his final bout of the day to capture a spot on the podium and an opportunity to compete in the placing rounds on Saturday.
 
A pair of Crimson wrestlers gained spots in Friday's evening session before bowing out as senior Dante Frinzi posted two wins at 141 pounds to move onto the second session, and junior Joseph Cangro notched a win at 165 pounds to remain in contention into the evening.
 
On Saturday, Harrington will open competition with a match against Michigan's Cameron Catrabone in the consolation round of four. 

Harvard Highlights

  • Senior 157-pounder Jimmy Harrington opened his time at the event with consecutive victories in the rounds of 32 and 16. In his first bout, he defeated Oklahoma's Layton Schneider via a 10-2 major decision in the round of 32. Harrington then beat Northwestern's Gunnar Myers with a 9-5 decision in the round of 16. Following a setback to Iowa State's Vinny Zerban in the quarterfinals, Harrington topped Cal Poly's Jagger French, 2-0, to earn a spot in the placing rounds and advance to Saturday.
  • Coming out of the day's first session, the Crimson advanced three wrestlers to the evening session on Friday with senior Jimmy Harrington claiming a spot in the quarterfinals and senior Dante Frinzi and junior Joseph Cangro each moving onto the consolation bracket.
  • Senior Dante Frinzi earned a pair of wins at 141 pounds. Following a setback in the round of 32, Frinzi responded with back-to-back wins in the consolation rounds. He began with a fall in 2:27 against Charles Curtis of Northern Illinois before registering a 6-0 decision over John Hildebrandt of Sacred Heart. Frinzi notched his second fall of the season.
  • Junior Joseph Cangro registered a win at 165 pounds to make it to the evening session. After a narrow 5-3 setback to Nicco Ruiz of Arizona State in the round of 16, Cangro came back with a 17-2 technical fall in 5:04 of CSU Bakersfield's Evan Manzo in the consolation. Cangro then dropped another narrow decision – 14-10 to Oregon State's Matthew Olguin – in the proceeding round.
