Women’s Lightweight Rowing’s Stacey Apfelbaum Steps Down from Post

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.Stacey Apfelbaum has stepped down from her position as the David K. Richards '61 Family Head Coach for Radcliffe Lightweight Crew. The second-year head coach's decision is effective immediately.

In Apfelbaum's absence, Erin McDermott, The John D. Nichols '53 Family Director of Athletics, has tapped assistant coach John Lindberg to serve as the program's interim head coach through the 2025-26 academic year.

Apfelbaum guided Harvard-Radcliffe to a pair of silver medals (V8, V4) at the 2025 Eastern Sprints Regatta, and then led the team to another silver (V8) and a bronze (V4) at the IRA National Championships. Harvard-Radcliffe's performance in 2025 garnered Apfelbaum and her staff the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association's (CRCA) Coaching Staff-of-the-Year Award.

This past fall, Harvard-Radcliffe continued to have success on the water, winning the Women's Lightweight Eight by more than six seconds at the 60th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta.

A national search for Apfelbaum's successor will begin later this academic year.
