Matt Ryan all posted top-20 finishes in men's slalom as Harvard University skiing closed competition at the Saint Michael's Carnival on day two of the event on Saturday.
In alpine action at Smugglers' Notch, the Crimson tallied five top-30 finishes in slalom on the day, including four top-20 efforts, with Harvard's men's contingent placing fourth as a group in men's slalom. Sheppard posted a season-best sixth in women's slalom, Armstrong (11
th), Kearing (13
th), and Ryan (18
th) all came in the top 18 in men's slalom, and sophomore
Emma Speiser added a personal-best 29
th in women's slalom. On Friday, Armstrong (14
th in men's giant slalom) and Sheppard (19
th in women's giant slalom) both notched top-30 efforts.
The alpine team succeeded under difficult conditions, including a challenging set for the men's first run, on a day where temperatures hovered in the single digits after Smugglers' Notch received 18 inches of snow last week, leading to a soft surface. The Crimson's men's side shined particularly in the day's second run with Armstrong placing second and Kearing taking fourth.
In nordic competition at Sleepy Hollow, Harvard came in ninth in the women's 3x5k classic relay and 16
th in the men's 3x5k classic relay. On Friday, senior
Quincy Donley led the Crimson with a 14
th-place finish in the women's 10k freestyle, and first-year
Bennett Hutchison placed 16
th in the men's 10k freestyle.
As a team, Harvard finished in a season-best eighth place out of 14 EISA schools with 412 points.
Harvard Highlights: Alpine Day 2
- As a team, Harvard tallied five top-30 finishes on the day, including three such results on the men's side and two for the women's team. The Crimson posted four top-20 finishes.
- Harvard's men's contingent came in fourth as a group in the slalom event behind 82 points and three top-20 finishes.
- First-year Skylar Sheppard placed a season-best sixth in women's slalom, including the fourth-fastest time in run one, posting her fifth straight top-20 effort and second top-10 showing of the year. She came in with a time of 1:55.09 (55.20 run one, 59.89 run two), for 37 EISA points and 40 NCAA points. Over her last two slalom races, she has posted sixth and eighth-place finishes.
- First-year Duncan Armstrong led the men's team in the slalom, finishing in 11th place to register his fifth top-14 effort of the year. Armstrong posted the second-fastest time in run two and has now placed in the top-30 in all six races this season. He clocked a total time of 1:56.72 (1:00.11 run one, 56.61 run two) and collected 30 EISA points and 24 NCAA points.
- Junior Luke Kearing recorded a season-best 13th-place finish in men's slalom, clocking the fourth-fastest time in run two. He came in with a time of 1:57.08 (1:00.20 run one, 56.88 run two) and claimed 28 EISA points and 20 NCAA points.
- Senior Matt Ryan notched a season-best 18th-place finish in men's slalom for his third top-30 effort of the year. He posted a 1:57.83 (59.95 run one, 57.88 run two) and grabbed 24 EISA points and 13 NCAA points.
- Sophomore Emma Speiser placed a season-best 29th in women's slalom behind a time of 2:04.65 (1:00.75 run one, 1:03.90 run two), contributing 14 EISA points and two NCAA points.

- First-year Duncan Armstrong tallied his fourth top-finish in five races to open the season behind a 14th-place finish in the men's giant slalom. He posted a time of 1:50.48 (53.64 run one, 56.84 run two) for 27 EISA points and 18 NCAA points. Armstrong has placed in the top 30 in all five races this season.
- First-year Skylar Sheppard registered her fourth straight top-20 showing of the year with a 19th-place finish in the women's giant slalom. She came in with a time of 1:53.71 (55.19 run one, 58.52 run two) for 22 EISA points and 12 NCAA points.
Harvard Highlights: Nordic Day 1
- Senior Quincy Donley posted her fourth straight top-20 finish behind a 14th-place effort in the women's 10k freestyle interval start. She tallied a time of 29:40.60 alongside 27 EISA points and 18 NCAA points.
- First-year Bennett Hutchison paced the Crimson's men's contingent with a season-best 16th-place finish in the men's 10k freestyle behind a time of 26:02.50 for 26 EISA points and 15 NCAA points.
- In the women's 10k freestyle, sophomore Breagh Bridge (season-best 27th, 30:33.30, 19 EISA points, four NCAA points), sophomore Clara Lake (32nd, 30:46.60, 17 EISA points), and senior Tali Wong (33rd, 30:59.50) all came in the top 35.
- First-year Elias Soulé posted his fourth top-30 finish of the season with a 27th-place showing in the men's 10k freestyle with a time of 26:34.20, collecting 19 EISA points and four NCAA points.
