CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Lucas St. Louis scored the game-winning goal late in the third period as the Crimson picked up three crucial ECAC points in its final home regular season home game at Bright-Landry.
Casey Severo and Phil Tresca scored the first two Crimson goals as the 3-2 win completes the season sweep over the RPI and clinches home ice in the first round of the ECAC playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Ted Donato is one win away from tying Ralph "Cooney" Weiland on the all-time wins list.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Harvard took the lead late in the first period when
Philip Tresca found the back of the net off a beautiful feed from
Mick Thompson. Thompson weaved his way through the offensive zone and found Tresca backdoor for his third goal of the season.
Casey Severo picked up a helper on Tresca's third goal of the season.
The Crimson doubled its lead at 13:04 of the second period when Severo capitalized on a power play opportunity, with Thompson and
Ben MacDonald adding the helpers. The only goal the Crimson converted on a five minute power-play opportunity, Thompson found Severo in the slot for his team-leading 13
th goal of the season.
Rensselaer fought back in the third, adding two goals to tie it.
Just 48 seconds after the Engineers goal,
Lucas St. Louis scored the eventual game-winning goal after
Mick Thompson put a shot on net that Phil Tresca tipped. The puck slid behind the RPI netminder where St. Louis pushed it over the line for his second goal of the season.
