Severo Nets OT Winner to Beat Yale

NEW HAVEN, CT – Casey Severo netted the game-winning goal in overtime as the Crimson defeated Yale by a score of 4-3 tonight in New Haven. Trailing 3-2 in the third period, the Crimson forced overtime with a goal from Ryan Healey, helping secure its 11th victory of the year.

First-years Mick Thompson and Will Hughes also found the back of the net for Harvard, while Thompson picked up his 26th point of the season. With another three-point outing, Thompson becomes just the seventh rookie since the 2002-03 season to have 25+ points in his first season in a Crimson uniform.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson came out firing in the opening minutes against its historic rival and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Mick Thompson and William Hughes found the back of the net.
Assisted by Philip Tresca and Casey Severo, Mick Thompson picked up a loose puck at the top of the crease for his 10th goal of the season just five minutes into the game.

Five minutes later, Will Hughes picked up a loose puck in the slot for his first career goal. Assisted by Tommy Lyons and Ian Moore, Hughes fired a puck through traffic to give the Crimson a 2-0 lead.
Mason Langenbrunner nearly made it 3-0 after hitting the post in one of many dangerous chances for the Crimson in the first period.

Late in the first, Michael Callow was called for tripping, sending the Crimson to the penalty kill for the first time. Yale converted on its first attempt after a shot from the top of the circles beat Koskenvuo through a screen.

The Crimson took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Yale tied the game in the second after David Chen broke free off a defensive zone faceoff. Making a quick move all alone, Chen tied the game at two with 15:00 left in the second period.

The Crimson found its stride in the second after Yale's game-tying goal, controlling much of the play for the remainder of the period and leading 17-14 in shots after 40 minutes.

Aku Koskenvuo made the save of the game in the third period after going post-to-post to keep the game tied at two.

Just after the Koskenvuo save, Yale converted on another power-play goal to take a 3-2 lead.

In a very chippy third period, Harvard was awarded a power play with just over five minutes left in regulation. Mick Thompson found Ryan Healey on the far dot, who fired a one-timer that squeezed through Stark to tie the game at three. Healey's third goal of the year sent the game to overtime for the second time in the last three meetings between the Bulldogs and Crimson.

The Crimson was awarded a five-minute power play after Lucas St. Louis was hit from behind. The power play carried into the overtime period, and with 1:15 left on the man advantage, Casey Severo knocked home a rebound to win the game in overtime and hand the Crimson its eighth consecutive victory over its Ivy rival.
