Women's Water Polo Hosts Crimson Classic This Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 19 Harvard Women's Water Polo continues its 15-game homestand to open the season this weekend when it plays host to the Crimson Classic at Blodgett Pool. The Friday-Sunday event will air live on ESPN+.

The Crimson will host a postgame autograph session and pizza event on Friday after the game against UC Santa Barbara.

WHAT TO KNOW
  • Harvard (3-1) is scheduled to face 15th-ranked UC Santa Barbara (7-3) on Friday at 7 p.m. ET, before facing No. 13 Princeton (3-0) (10:20 a.m. ET) and No. 24 LIU (2-1) (2:30 p.m. ET) on Saturday, and 11th-ranked UC San Diego (4-6) on Sunday (9 a.m. ET).
  • The Crimson opened the campaign last weekend at Blodgett Pool with four Bruno Classic games. Harvard swept the  Saturday doubleheader by defeating No. 25 LIU, 16-8, and No. 19 Wagner, 15-11. The Crimson suffered a 14-10 setback vs. No. 12 Indiana before rebounding with a 20-0 victory over Redlands.
  • Harvard's 2-0 start on Saturday was its first since 2021-22, and its 3-1 start heading into this week's action is its third in the last four seasons. The Crimson has opened with a 3-1 record or better over its first four games in eight of the last nine campaigns.
  • The Crimson will go head-to-head with UCSB for the first time since 2018, and for just the seventh time overall. Harvard is 1-5 vs. the Gauchos, with the lone victory coming in 2016. The matchup, however, will be the first to take place at Blodgett Pool.
  • Harvard will face long-time foe Princeton and continue a series that dates to 1984. The Crimson dropped both games last season, but comes into the contest having won three of the last five get-togethers.
  • Harvard will meet LIU for the second straight weekend and carries a 4-0 all-time lead against the Sharks. In a bit of a series oddity, the Crimson has allowed exactly eight goals in all four games (cumulative score – Harvard 54, LIU 32). All four meetings have occurred since 2020.
  • The Crimson will be in search of its first series win over UCSD. The teams have met sporadically over the decades (1986, 1994, 2014, 2017, 2018), with a sixth being canceled in 2020.
NEXT UP
Harvard will begin CWPA play next week, when Saint Francis and Bucknell visit Blodgett Pool on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET and 4:30 p.m. ET, respectively. The Crimson will then face Michigan on Sunday at 9 a.m. ET. All three games will air live on ESPN+.
