Matt Ryan all posted top-20 finishes as Harvard University skiing opened competition on day one of the Dartmouth Carnival on Friday.
In alpine action at the Dartmouth Skiway, Sheppard came in seventh place in women's slalom, including posting the fastest time of the first run while Ryan finished 18
th in men's slalom. Sheppard tallied her third straight top-eight effort in women's slalom, and Ryan notched his fourth top-30 finish of the year.
In nordic competition at Oak Hill, Donley led the Crimson with a 10
th-place finish in the women's 7.5k classic, matching her season best. She posted her fifth top-20 effort of the season.
As a team, Harvard stands in ninth place out of 14 EISA schools with 154 points.
Harvard will close competition at the Dartmouth Carnival tomorrow – Saturday, Feb. 8 – with alpine competing in the giant slalom and nordic taking part in the 20k freestyle.

Harvard Highlights: Alpine Day 1
- First-year Skylar Sheppard led the Crimson with a seventh-place finish in women's slalom, including posting the fastest time in the first run. Sheppard tallied her sixth straight top-20 finish and third straight top-eight effort in slalom. Over her last three slalom races, she has placed eighth, sixth, and seventh in order. She finished with a combined time of 1:41.58 (49.37 run one, 52.21 run two) for 35 EISA points and 36 NCAA points.
- Senior Matt Ryan placed 18th in men's slalom, matching his season-best finish. He has posted back-to-back 18th-place efforts in slalom and notched his fourth top-30 finish of the season. Ryan recorded a time of 1:36.34 (48.24 run one, 48.10 run two), registered the 13th-best time in run two, and collected 22 EISA points and 13 NCAA points.
- Harvard's women's alpine contingent placed in sixth as a team in women's slalom. Officials moved the slalom event to day one of the carnival due to weather conditions.

- Senior Quincy Donley matched her season best with a 10th-place finish in the women's 7.5k classic, posting her fifth top-20 finish of the season. She came in with a time of 25:41.70 for 31 EISA points and 26 NCAA points.
- Sophomore Clara Lake followed Donley with a 34th-place showing in the women's 7.5k classic behind a time of 27:08.40 for 18 EISA points.

Next weekend, Harvard will compete at the Middlebury Carnival from Feb. 14-15 with alpine events at the Middlebury Snowbowl in Hancock, Vermont and nordic events at the Rikert Outdoor Center in Ripton, Vermont.
