NEW HAVEN, Conn. – February 8, 2025 – In a hard-fought contest at Ingalls Rink, the Harvard women's ice hockey team put forth a strong defensive effort but ultimately fell to the Yale Bulldogs in a tightly contested rivalry matchup. The Crimson (2-22-2, 1-18-1 ECACH) blocked a season-high 28 shots and kept the game close for the majority of the night, but Yale (15-10-2, 10-9-1 ECACH) added three third-period goals to secure the victory.
How It Happened
Harvard's final road game of the regular season took the team to New Haven to face Ivy League rival Yale at Ingalls Rink. The Crimson aimed to complete a season sweep of the Bulldogs after defeating them on home ice in November.
It was a slow start for both offenses, with only four shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes. Emily Davidson stopped every shot that got through to her, keeping the game scoreless halfway through the first period. Harvard's defense stood strong, going 2-for-2 on the penalty kill and holding Yale off the scoreboard thanks to 12 blocked shots and 10 saves from Davidson. The teams entered the first intermission locked in a scoreless tie.
The Crimson continued to push for the first goal in the second period. Mia Biotti made a great move to put a shot on goal, and Scout Oudemool had a quality chance from the wing, but Yale's goaltender made both saves. On the other end, Davidson turned away 15 shots to keep the Bulldogs from breaking through. Another strong defensive period from Harvard ensured the game remained scoreless heading into the third.
Yale finally broke the deadlock early in the third period, scoring the game's first goal to take a 1-0 lead. Harvard went on the power play shortly after but, despite generating several dangerous scoring chances, was unable to find the back of the net. After killing off the Crimson's power play, Yale quickly struck again, doubling its lead just before the midway point of the period. The Bulldogs sealed the win with a third goal at the six-minute mark.
