Men's Heavyweight Rowing

No. 3 Harvard Men’s Rowing Falls Short Against No. 1 Washington in Competitive Dual

SARASOTA, Fla. – No. 3 Harvard men's heavyweight rowing faced off against No. 1 Washington on the first day of a two-day racing event at the Nathan Benderson Race Course. Despite staying competitive, the Crimson fell short in all four head-to-head matchups against the Huskies on Friday, March 28. With sunny skies and mild temperatures in Sarasota today, Harvard will have another chance to challenge Washington tomorrow, Saturday, March 29, alongside Northeastern, Yale, and Brown.

Harvard's first varsity eight, coxed by Sreetej Digumarthi and stroked by Benjamin Scott, went head-to-head with the nation's top-ranked crew. Although Washington surged off the start, the Crimson kept close, staying within a boat length throughout. Ultimately, Washington took the win, crossing the line 1.34 seconds ahead.

The second varsity eight, coxed by Nat Toms and stroked by Owen Marcovitz, maintained a competitive pace throughout but fell just short, finishing 0.95 seconds behind Washington.

In the third varsity eight, coxed by Cate Engles and stroked by Joshua Gordon, Harvard stayed within striking distance, with the closest margin of the day—only 0.77 seconds separating the two crews at the finish line.

Harvard's fourth varsity eight, coxed by Iris Henenin and stroked by George Burney, kicked off the competition in the first race of the dual. Though the Crimson kept it close early, Washington gradually pulled away and held onto their lead.

With tomorrow's races offering another opportunity for the Crimson to challenge the Huskies, all eyes will be on Harvard as they look to bounce back and close the gap.
