How it Happened
An early 8-5 advantage allowed the Patriots to maintain a lead throughout much of the opening set. The Crimson, however, never went away and even pulled in front at 19-18 following a 3-0 run. George Mason led late, threatening a set win with a 23-21 advantage. Powered by a packed Malkin Athletic Center, Harvard rallied, collecting six of the final eight points to win the first set, 27-25.
The two teams were tied nine times in the early moments of the second set as George Mason battled to get on the board. Back-to-back points for the Crimson after a 12-12 tie proved to be the distance it needed, as it would never again relinquish its lead in the set. Harvard took a late 24-20 lead, and while the Patriots held off two set points, the Crimson ultimately held on and won the second frame, 25-22.
Harvard carried its two-set lead momentum into the final set, grabbing a pair of three-point leads early. The Crimson eventually erupted on a 7-1 run late to blow past the Patriots and nearly put the match to rest.
