CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's tennis (13-8, 5-0 Ivy) matched its best start in Ivy League play since 2018 with a win over No. 63 Yale (12-8, 3-2 Ivy) this afternoon to claim a share of the conference crown. While clinching at least a share of this year's title, the Crimson collected its first Ivy League championship since 2017.
The senior duo of
Rachel Arbitman and
Angel You kept its hot streak in doubles play alive as they collected the first doubles win of the day, winning 6-2 at court three.
Holly Fischer and
Stephanie Yakoff followed with their own strong 6-3 win at the top court to grab the doubles point for Harvard.
Charlotte Owensby carried the Crimson momentum into singles, securing the only straight set win of the day with a 6-4, 6-1 result at court three.
The No. 63 nationally ranked Bulldogs never went away, while four matches went to a third set as Harvard was ahead 2-0 in the contest.
Harvard and Yale traded wins in the next two completed matches as the Bulldogs took court four and the Crimson countered with a victory from
Stephanie Yakoff. After falling 6-2 in the opening set, the sophomore rallied with dominant second (6-1) and third (6-0) set performances.
Fittingly, Fischer went on to clinch the match on Senior Day. The senior won the first and third sets with a pair of 6-4 decisions to solidify the Harvard victory.
