Jones Takes Second; Men’s Golf Finishes Third at Weather-Shortened Ivy League Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. – The Harvard men's golf team wrapped up its 2024-25 season this afternoon after weather forced the cancelation of the final round of the 2025 Ivy League Championship. The Crimson finished in third place as a team with a score of 21-over-par, led by first-year Ieuan Jones, who posted a weekend score of two-under par to finish as the tournament's runner-up. The second-place finish was the highest of the season for Jones who posted consecutive rounds of 69 [-1], to stay at the top of the leaderboard and secure a spot on the Ivy League's All-Championship team.

How It Happened

The Crimson made the trip down to the greater-Philadelphia area this weekend to compete in the 2025 Ivy League Championship Tournament. Harvard took on the six other Ivy programs and the Rolling Green Golf Club in the team's last regular season tournament.

The action started on Friday with the first round of play. Harvard posted a team score of 288 [+8] to position itself in a tie for second place after 18 holes of competition. Ieuan Jones led the group with a score of 69 [-1] coming into the clubhouse locked in a five-way tie for second place. Jones caught fire early in his round, carding three consecutive birdies on the front nine before adding another pair of birdies on the back nine. William Ma and Jeff Fang each posted rounds of 71 [+1] on the first day of competition to come in tied for eighth place. Jonathan Hartono was the last contributor to the team score with his round of 77 [+7].

Jones maintained his steady play during Saturday's round two, posting another round of 69 [-1] to solidify his position in second place. The first-year carded four birdies in the tournament including two in his bogey-free back nine. William Ma, Barry Zhang and Jeff Fang also contributed to the Crimson's team score with rounds of 73 [+3], 75 [+5] and 76 [+6], respectively. Harvard's second round score of 293 [+13], pushed them back just one spot into third-place at the close of competition on Saturday.

Harvard was about halfway through its third round on Sunday before unplayable weather conditions forced the cancelation of the final round. Per Ivy League rules, the rounds did not count, and the 36-hole scores were used to determine the winners. The Crimson took third-place in the tournament for the second consecutive season while Jones finished on the League's All-Championship team with a score of two-under-par which put him in a tie for second place.
