HANOVER, N.H. – Harvard men's lacrosse put on a clinic on both ends of the field in a commanding 18-7 win over Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. The Crimson (8-2, 2-1 Ivy) raced out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, fueled by a relentless defensive performance and a six-goal outing from
Jack Speidell. The victory marks Harvard's second-highest scoring output of the season.
How it Happened
Harvard opened the game on a 7-0 run, sparked by a hat trick from
Jack Speidell in the opening frame.
Teddy Malone added a goal that marked his 100th career point, and
Sam King found the net off a Speidell assist to cap a dominant first quarter.
Owen Gaffney and
Logan Ip also added tallies as Harvard flexed its offensive depth.
But the real story of the game was the Crimson's stifling defense. Harvard limited Dartmouth to just 21 total shots, including only two on goal in the first half, while forcing a season-high 19 caused turnovers. On the other end, Harvard peppered the Big Green with 53 shots — more than doubling the home side's total — and capitalized with scoring depth across the roster.
The Crimson extended their lead in the second quarter with goals from Ip and King, the latter reaching the 30-goal mark on the season. Speidell added his fifth before halftime, giving Harvard an 11-1 lead at the break.
Dartmouth showed signs of life to open the third quarter, scoring three quick goals, but the Crimson answered right back. Andrew Perry, John Aurandt IV (on a diving finish), and Jack Petersen (his first of the season) each scored to keep the game firmly in Harvard's control at 14-4.
In the fourth, Perry notched his second of the day, Malone added his second (off King's third assist), and Speidell capped his monster day with his sixth goal. Senior Elijah Cohen brought the bench to its feet with his first goal since his first-year season, and first-year goalie Teddy Kim recorded his first career save to punctuate the 18-7 win.
