No. 14 Men’s Tennis Drops Tight Contest with No. 34 Princeton, 4-3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 14 Harvard men's tennis dropped a tight ranked battle to No. 34 Princeton, 4-3, this afternoon in Princeton, NJ.

"Another nail-biter college tennis match," said Andrew Rueb '95, the Scott Mead '77 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Tennis.  "This one didn't fall our way but it wasn't for a lack of fight or effort.  Really proud of our team and I know we will be ready to respond tomorrow against Penn."

Daniel Milavsky and David Lins defeated the No. 41 nationally ranked duo in convincing fashion, 6-3, at the top court but the Crimson were ultimately tripped up in doubles with losses at the next two courts.

Milavsky earned another dominant win in singles to get the Crimson on the board.  The senior defeated No. 71 Fnu Nidunjianzaan (Princeton) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to quickly even the match.

The Tigers, however, responded with wins at the No. 2 and 4 spots to pull within a point of clinching the match.  Melchior Delloye added a point to get the Crimson back in the win column.  After falling in the opening set, identical 6-4 decisions in the next two sets solidified Delloye's win over Evan Wen (Princeton) at court five.

Valdemar Pape followed, dropping Ellis Short (Princeton) in a three-set battle (6-3, 4-6, 7-5) to tie the contest at three-all.

A court six battle between Mitchell Lee and Milan Markovits (Princeton) remained to settle the match.  After stealing the first set in tiebreakers (7-6 (2)), Lee would go on to drop the next two sets, 6-4, 6-4, losing the match.

Despite the loss, Harvard has been dominant in the two teams' recent close contests, having defeated the Tigers nine times in the last ten meetings.
