COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Vanessa Zhang continued her strong run this weekend by leading the Harvard women's golf team to a seventh-place finish in a competitive field at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational. The Crimson posted a team score of 895 [+31] with individual round scores of 297 [+9], 293 [+5] and 305 [+17] during the competition. Zhang's second round score of 69 [-3] was a tournament best for the Crimson and helped her post her highest career finish with a second-place performance in Maryland.
 

How it Happened

Harvard opened up play at the Terrapin Invitational yesterday with 36 holes of action on University of Maryland Golf Course. Harvard competed well on day one, with three players finishing the first 18 holes inside the top 30 on the individual leaderboard. Zhang's round of 73 [+1] led the way while Bonnie Zhai and Lucy Yuan shot matching rounds of 74 [+2] to put the Crimson in the middle of the pack.
 
The Crimson's best round score came on the back half of Sunday's 36-hole run, when the group came in with a five-over-par round of 293. Zhang carded five birdies in her second round to post a three-under-par score of 69, moving into a tie for the top spot on the individual leader board. Wang contributed with a 73 [+1], Michelle Liu posted a 74 [+2] and Lucy Yuan shot a 77 [+5] to help the team move into fifth place in the field after the first day of competition.
 
Zhang capped off her impressive run at the tournament with a third-round score of 73 [+1]. The score was a team-best on the day for the Crimson and helped the first-year take second place in the tournament. Wang and Liu each shot 77 [+5] and Lucy Yuan shot 78 [+6] as the Crimson finished in seventh place in the tournament.

The Crimson has now completed its regular season tournament schedule and will move into postseason play that begins with the Ivy League Championships. The tournament is set for Friday-Sunday April 18-20 and will be held at the Royal Palm Golf Club in Naples, Fla.
