CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball is set to compete in the 2025 Ivy League Tournament set to take place from May 16-19 at George H.W. Bush Field in New Haven, Connecticut on the campus of No. 1 seed Yale as the No. 2 seed Crimson meets the top-seeded Bulldogs in the opening round on Friday, May 16 at noon (ESPN+).
What to Know
- Harvard (12-26, 9-12 Ivy) has now qualified for the Ivy League Tournament for the second time in the three years of the event's existence after also reaching the tournament in 2023. The tournament is set to follow the same format as the NCAA Regionals. Alongside Harvard, the event features No. 1 seed Yale (30-12, 16-5 Ivy), No. 2 seed Columbia (24-17, 16-5 Ivy), and No. 3 seed Penn (21-18, 13-8 Ivy).
- From 1993 to 2022, the Ivy League conducted a three-game championship series to determine the conference champion. Harvard made nine appearances in that championship format, last winning the title in 2019. The Crimson made appearances in the Ivy League Championship Series in 1996, 1997 (win), 1998 (win), 1999 (win), 2002 (win), 2003, 2005 (win), 2006, and 2019 (win).
- In program history, Harvard has collected 19 Ivy League titles and 22 EIBL titles with the latest Ivy title coming in 2019.
- Harvard leads Yale in the all-time series, 208-194-1 with the two teams first meeting in 1868. Harvard leads the all-time series with Columbia, 95-75-1 as the two teams first met in 1886. Harvard leads Penn in the all-time series, 121-82-1 in a series that dates back to 1886.
- The Crimson helped secure its spot in the 2025 Ivy League Tournament with a 5-3 win over Princeton (May 7) in its regular season finale as senior George Cooper posted two hits and two RBIs, and junior right-hander Callan Fang (five innings) and sophomore right-hander Truman Pauley (four innings) combined to allow just three runs.
- For the season, Harvard has tallied double-figure runs in each of eight games, including four times in Ivy League play. The Crimson has totaled double-figure hits in each of 13 games, including 10 times in Ivy play.
- Since March 25, Harvard has posted a 12-10 overall record and 9-9 Ivy League mark, hitting .299 as a team during that span. The Crimson won three of its final four Ivy League series to close the regular season with 2-1 set wins over Princeton (Apr. 11, May 7) and Cornell (Apr. 19-20) and a 3-0 sweep of Brown (Apr. 25, 27).
- Senior George Cooper has totaled 185 career hits, ranking seventh in program history. He trails only Andrew Huling (188 hits, 1996-99), Trey Hendricks (193, 2001-04), Patrick McColl (194, 2016-19), Lance Salsgiver (202, 2003-06), Mark Mager (205, 1999-2002), and Hal Carey (208, 1996-99).
- Junior Gio Colasante – a member of the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List – hit .354 in Ivy League play with 30 hits, six home runs, five doubles, and 19 RBIs. In conference play, he ranked second in the league in home runs (six), third in slugging (.616), third in total bases (53), sixth in hits (30), sixth in average (.349), and ninth in RBIs (19). Overall, for the year, he has hit .302 with 42 hits, 27 runs, 27 RBIs, seven doubles, and eight homers. He stands third in the league in homers (eight) and sixth in slugging (.541). As a pitcher, he notched a 5.57 ERA in conference play with 23 strikeouts over 21.0 innings pitched. For the Dartmouth series (Apr. 4-6), he went 7-for-12 (.583) with two doubles, a homer, and five RBIs as a hitter, while tossing five shutout innings as a pitcher to help him earn Ivy League Player of the Week (Apr. 7). He hit 7-for-15 (.467) in the Penn series (Mar. 22-23) with multi-hit games in all three contests.
- Senior outfielder/infielder George Cooper has tallied a team-best .342 batting average alongside 50 hits, 27 runs, nine doubles, five home runs, and a team-best 29 RBIs on the year. Cooper ranks fifth in the league in average (.342), seventh in hits (50), eighth in total bases (76), and ninth in slugging (.521). In Ivy only play, he hit .341 with 30 hits, five doubles, and two homers, ranking sixth in the league in hits (30) and 10th in average (.341). For the Cornell series (Apr. 19-20), he hit .579 (11-for-19) with nine runs and four doubles. In game three against the Big Red (Apr. 20), he finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs, three runs, and two doubles. He hit homers in three straight games from Mar. 23-28. Cooper posted a 3-for-4 effort with a two-run homer in the win over Holy Cross (Mar. 25). In the series opener against Northeastern (Mar. 14), he went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double.
- Senior outfielder Matt Giberti has notched a .314 batting average, 43 hits, a team-best 29 runs, and a 19-for-22 effort in stolen bases. He ranks first in the Ivy League in stolen bases (19) and second in triples (three). In Ivy only play, he hit .330 with 30 hits, 18 runs, and 12 RBIs. In Ivy competition, he leads the league in stolen bases (12) and triples (two), while ranking sixth in hits (30). In the win over Stonehill (Apr. 15), he went 3-for-5 with his first collegiate home run.
- Sophomore Jack Rickheim has contributed a .283 average with 39 hits, 21 RBIs, 21 runs scored, and eight doubles. In Ivy play, he hit .286 with 24 hits, 15 RBIs, and 12 runs. Rickheim tallied four RBIs in Harvard's 7-4 win over Brown (Apr. 25) in 10 innings. He notched the go-ahead RBI in the bottom of the eighth in the 14-13 win over Holy Cross (Mar. 25).
- Senior William Lybrook hit .305 during Ivy League play with 18 hits, 12 RBIs, nine runs, and a home run. For the Brown series (Apr. 25-27), he hit .500 (6-for-12) with four runs, two RBIs, and a .600 OBP.
- Sophomore Tyler Shulman posted a .303 batting average and .434 OBP during Ivy League play alongside 20 hits and 11 RBIs. Overall, he has hit .287 with 29 hits, 20 RBIs, 15 runs, four doubles, and three homers. He tallied three RBIs, two hits, and a home run in The Baseball Beanpot championship game at Fenway Park vs. Northeastern (Apr. 27).
- Junior right-handed pitcher Callan Fang has tallied a 4.66 ERA with 58 strikeouts over 58.0 innings on the year. Fang stands fourth in the Ivy League in strikeouts (58), eighth in ERA (4.66), and eighth in innings pitched (58.0). In Ivy only play, he ranked first in innings pitched (51.1) and third in strikeouts (53). Fang notched a career-high 12 strikeouts over 6.0 innings at Brown (Apr. 25). He tossed 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts in the win over Yale (Mar. 28) and hurled a career-high 8.0 innings with one run allowed vs. Princeton (Apr. 11). Fang won the 2024 Ivy League Pitcher of the Year award and the 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year award.
- Sophomore right-hander Truman Pauley has tallied 78 strikeouts over 61.1 innings pitched on the year. In the NCAA, Pauley ranks eighth in hits allowed per nine (5.43) and 38th in strikeouts per nine (11.45). In the Ivy League, he ranks first in strikeouts (78), second in opponents' batting average (.173), and fifth in innings pitched (61.1). In Ivy only play, he stands second in strikeouts (56), second in opponents' average (.153), second in wins (four), and seventh in innings pitched (41.2). Pauley brought a no-hitter into the ninth inning against Princeton (Apr. 11), tossing a career-high 8.1 innings with a career-best 12 strikeouts to earn Ivy League Pitcher of the Week (Apr. 15). He hurled 7.0 innings vs. Cornell (Apr. 19), allowing two earned runs with 10 strikeouts. He tallied double-figure strikeouts for the third straight start with 10 strikeouts in 5.0 innings at Brown (Apr. 27), while picking up a save earlier in the series (Apr. 25) against the Bears. Pauley tossed 6.0 innings in the win at Dartmouth (Apr. 4), allowing no earned runs with six strikeouts. He threw 6.2 innings with nine strikeouts, while allowing two runs at Northeastern (Mar. 15).
- Sophomore right-hander Ryan McHugh ranks third in the Ivy League in saves (three) in all games and first in saves (three) during conference play. He has tallied saves against Yale (Mar. 28), Princeton (Apr. 11), and Cornell (Apr. 19).Â
