Women's Rugby Advances to Quarterfinals After Day One of CRAA 7s Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. Harvard women's rugby completed Day 1 of the CRAA 7s tournament on Friday, May 2. The Crimson opened the day with a victory over Princeton, but fell short against Life University in the second match. Game 1: Harvard 29, Princeton 14

  • Princeton struck first, breaking through the Crimson defense for an early try and a 7–0 lead. Harvard responded quickly as Cameron Fields found open space and dashed the length of the field for a try. Ava Ference converted the kick to tie the game, 7–7.
  • Lennox London nearly crossed the try line but was stopped just short. Dana Greer was there to scoop up the ball and finish the play, recording her first try of the tournament. Soon after, Ava Ference broke through again for five more points, giving Harvard a 17–7 lead at the half.
  • The second half began with a dominant performance from Greer, who, sparked by powerful runs from Ference, scored back-to-back tries to notch the first hat trick of her collegiate career. Princeton managed one more try, but Harvard closed out the win at 29–14.

Game 2: Life 26, Harvard 14

  • Life jumped out to a fast start, scoring three unanswered tries to take a 17–0 lead. Just before halftime, Lennox London broke through the Life defense for a much-needed try. Ference added the conversion to cut the deficit to 17–7 at the break.
  • Harvard showed stronger defensive intensity in the second half, forcing turnovers and making key tackles. After a long spell of possession, senior Jara-Emtage Cave powered into the try zone for five points, and Ference once again converted, making it a one-score game.
  • Despite the late push, Life responded and sealed the match with one final try, defeating Harvard 26–14.
