Sailing in Second at ICSA Open Fleet Race Eastern Semifinals

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Defending national champion Harvard Sailing finds itself in second place in the Eastern Division of the ICSA Open Fleet Race National Semifinals. After one day of action, the Crimson owns a score of 27, which only trails Brown (23). In the western semis, Stanford leads with a 28.

On a day in which winds peaked at 10 knots and were mostly light throughout the day, Harvard's A-Division sailors Justin Callahan and Kennedy Leehealey started the regatta with a first-place showing and replicated the effort in Race 3. The duo alternated its winning performances with third-place finishes, ultimately completing its day with a final line of 1-3-1-3.

The Crimson's other duo of Mitchell Callahan and Rosella Irfan raced three times in Division B and finished strong after a slow beginning. Harvard completed Race 1 in 12th place, but rebounded with sixth- and first-place efforts to pair J. Callahan-Leehealey's 8 with a score of 19.

The defending champs will look to secure a spot in the finals tomorrow as the 36-team field (two divisions of 18 teams) renews competition in the morning, weather permitting.
