MANCHESTER, England – Harvard Women's Soccer star
Jade Rose '25 is officially a professional soccer player after signing a professional contract for Manchester City this morning. The announcement made by the club announced Rose as its first signing of the Summer transfer window, bringing Rose to Loie Stadium through the 2029 season. Rose signed for the Blues after an illustrious college career with the Crimson that saw her capture two Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year awards, four First-Team All-Ivy League selections and two All-America honors.
The announcement and signing marks a historic feat for Rose and Harvard women's soccer as the standout will become the first HWS athlete to ever compete in the Barclays Women's Super League.
One of the most dominant and talented center backs in the history of Harvard Women's Soccer and the Ivy League, Rose appeared in 53 career games and helped her Crimson outscore its opposition 125-51 in those contests. Offensively, she contributed four goals and 11 assists to a club that made three consecutive NCAA Tournaments from 2021-2023 while capturing the first ever Ivy League Women's Soccer Tournament Championship in the 2023 season.
Rose's soccer achievements do not stop at the collegiate level as the Canada native has shined on the international stage for the Canadian Women's National Team, earning 28 caps since making her debut for the first team in 2021. An emerging talent in the sport, Rose was named the Canada Soccer Women's Young Player of the Year in 2023. One year later, the Ontario native was playing with the club at the 2024 Paris Olympics, making her the first Harvard Women's Soccer student-athlete to ever compete in the Olympic Games.
"I'm so incredibly excited [to join City], so proud of how far I've come, and I just can't wait to get started. I think the history of the Club, the fans, the style of play, the city, everything [attracted me to City]," said Rose in the announcement posted by the club earlier today. "I'm just super excited to get started. I'm ready to win the Champions League, to win every trophy that's out there. I think the sky is the limit for this team and I can't wait to grow and get at it."
Rose is the latest in a wave of professional signings for former Crimson Women's Soccer stars including her teammate
Josefine Hasbo, who just signed for the NWSL's Gotham F.C. last week. Sophie Hirst '22 and Midge Purce '16 are also playing in the NWSL for the Portland Thornes and Gotham F.C., respectively while Hannah Bebar signed for The Bay F.C. earlier this Spring. In the newly founded Northern Super League, Anna Karpenko '24 and Lara Schenk '22 are playing with the Montreal Roses and
Nicola Golen '25 is playing with the Ottawa Rapid.
Across the pond, Gabby DelPico '24 signed a professional contract for Shelbourne F.C. who plays in the League of Ireland Women's Premier Division. Across the island, Murphy Agnew '21 is playing in Scotland for Celtic F.C. and recently made club history by scoring the team's first ever goal in Champions League play.
Jade and her new club, Manchester City, will begin its 2025-26 campaign and its chase of a WSL Championship in late August.
