CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Harvard men's water polo team wrapped up its trip to California this afternoon with a narrow 11-12 loss at the hands of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags. The Crimson (5-6, 0-0 NWPC) got five goals from Dean Strausser in the effort but fell after CMS (4-1, 0-0 SCIAC) scored a last second goal to take the win.
The Crimson opened up an early 5-1 lead on the Stags in the first quarter of play but CMS mounted a comeback effort to take a 9-8 lead – its first of the game – in the third quarter. After another pair of goals went to the Stags, Harvard roared back to tie the game at 11 with three consecutive goals from Strausser,
Jack Burghardt and
Mason Hunt. With the game tied at 11, CMS retook possession and struck the final blow with a goal as the regulation buzzer sounded.

The Crimson will have the next two weeks to rest and recover before beginning NWPC play on October 4. Harvard will play a trio of conference games, the first against LIU in Brooklyn followed by a matchup with Iona before traveling to Princeton to take on the Tigers on Sunday (Oct. 5).
