CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Harvard women's volleyball (0-7) came up short against Bryant (5-7) in the second match of the Eagle Classic this evening, falling 3-1 (29-31, 14-25, 25-21, 22-25).
How it Happened
The Bulldogs looked in control early, creating a 10-5 advantage. Harvard, however, stormed ahead with a string of dominant streaks forming its own five-point lead at 19-14. Another push from Bryant tied the contest at 20-all and a struggle for set point ensued. The two teams had a combined seven set points before the Bulldogs ultimately stole the opening set, 31-29.
Bryant carried its momentum from a tight first set win into the second as a 6-0 lead gave the Bulldogs a 7-3 advantage. The foes continued to cruise, leading by as many as 12 and eventually closing out the set at 25-14.
Following a back-and-forth affair to open the third frame, Harvard exploded on a 6-0 run to lead 14-9. The Crimson's lead remained for the entirety of the set, and the Bulldogs never cut the deficit to less than two. Harvard got on the board with a 25-21 result in the set.
The final set was a battle, with 13 ties throughout the stanza. Either team struggled to gain any real momentum in the frame but the Bulldogs provided the deciding shift, collecting four of the final five points to take the fourth set, 25-22.
Harvard Highlights
- Brynne Faltinsky and Sofia Rossi each recorded 10 kills on the day to lead the Crimson on the offensive end.
- Faltinsky had an all-around performance adding 10 digs, two aces, and contributing to three blocks.
- Taylor Larkin, who ranks as one of the best blockers in the nation, was part of six of the Crimson's 12 total blocks this evening.
- Harvard continues to improve at the net, recording 12 blocks to set another season-high after having 11 just a match prior.
- Sophia Wei once again led Harvard in both assists and digs, registering 14 and 11, respectively.
