Men’s Soccer Continues Five-Game Unbeaten Run with 0-0 Shutout against Northeastern

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior goalkeeper Cullen MacNeil posted his second straight shutout, and the Crimson improved to 3-0-2 in its last five contests as Harvard University men's soccer played to a 0-0 draw with Northeastern University on Tuesday night at Jordan Field.
 
Playing in the second match of a four-game homestand, the Crimson (3-1-2) tallied its third shutout as a team this season and held a 14-4 advantage in shots against the Huskies (2-4-2).
 
Over its last five matches, Harvard has conceded just two goals with three clean sheets in that span. For the season, the Crimson has permitted just three goals over six matches for a 0.50 GAA.

Harvard Highlights

  • Senior goalkeeper Cullen MacNeil made one save in his second straight shutout. He now has six career clean sheets.
  • Harvard moved to 3-0-2 in its five matches with three shutouts as a team during that span.
  • Among the Crimson's field players, sophomore center backs Tim Langenbahn and Juan Pablo Fregoso both played the full 90 minutes.
  • Junior Andreas Savva tallied a game-high four shots while junior Yuta Hata added three shots.
  • As a team, Harvard held advantages in shots (14-4), shots on goal (2-1), and corner kicks (6-2).

How It Happened

  • Harvard held an 8-2 edge in shots in the first half with a bicycle kick attempt from Langenbahn sailing high following a corner kick in the 28th minute and a free kick attempt from Hata carrying just over the bar in the 35th minute.
  • The Crimson pressured the Huskies early in the second half with shots from sophomore Shane Lonergan and Rustin Khosravi going just wide in the 54th and 59th minutes.
  • MacNeil stood tall in the 62nd minute, diving to his left to stop a well-struck ball.
  • Inside the final half hour, Savva fired a shot that was blocked in the 67th minute while sophomore Xavier Tanyi drove a shot on target in the 80th minute.
