CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior goalkeeper
Cullen MacNeil made a season-high five saves, but Harvard University men's soccer fell to Princeton University, 1-0, in its Ivy League opener on Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field.
Playing in the third match of a four-game homestand, the Crimson (3-2-2, 0-1-0 Ivy) created multiple chances in both halves, but the Tigers (6-1-0, 1-0-0 Ivy) – currently ranked No. 5 in the NCAA RPI – took the decision with a goal in the 23
rd minute.
As a team, the Crimson defense has permitted just four goals on the year for a 0.57 GAA. Harvard has not allowed more than one goal in a contest this season.
Harvard Highlights
- Senior goalkeeper Cullen MacNeil made a season-high five saves. He permitted his first goal of the season but still maintains a 0.33 GAA and 0.889 save percentage on the season.
- For the year, the Crimson has allowed just four goals as a team, notching a 0.57 GAA.
- Sophomore center back Alexander Castel stood as the only Crimson field player to compete in the full 90 minutes.
- Junior Andreas Savva tallied a team-high three shots.

How It Happened
- The Crimson made plays at both ends of the pitch in the game's early moments as MacNeil stood tall on a save in the ninth minute, and junior Ben Kelly fired a shot on goal that required a reaction save in the 10th minute.
- MacNeil stopped another well-struck ball in the 19th minute to keep the score level.
- Princeton netted the game's only goal in the 23rd minute as Daniel Ittycheria headed home a cross from Bardia Hormozi alongside an assist from Kevin Kelley.
- In the 33rd minute, sophomore Shane Lonergan sent a shot on target with the goalkeeper coming off his line to make a save.
- Just before halftime, a header from senior Nicholas Nyquist went just over the bar in the 43rd minute.
- Moving to the second half, first-year Drew Lobley drove a one-timed shot over the crossbar following a corner kick I the 53rd minute.
- In the 61st minute, Princeton goalkeeper Andrew Samuels stopped a penalty kick attempt from Nyquist after Nyquist drew a penalty as he attempted a shot.
- Harvard nearly drew level in the 89th minute as first-year Alejandro Palacio fired a shot on frame off a free kick from just outside the penalty area, Castel sent a header on frame on the ensuing rebound, and senior Ethan Veghte sent a shot just off target on the following rebound.
