CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior
Andreas Savva and first-year
Alejandro Palacio each scored a goal inside of the final 11 minutes to level the score before the Terriers added a late tally as Harvard University men's soccer fell to Boston University, 3-2, on Tuesday night at Jordan Field.
Facing a 2-0 deficit late in the match, the Crimson (3-3-2) scored two goals in a two-minute span to knot the score at 2-2 prior to a goal from the Terriers (6-3-0) in the 84
th minute that stood up as the decisive tally.
Playing in the final match of a four-game home stand, the Crimson permitted goals in the 11
th and 77
th minutes before rallying behind markers from Savva and Palacio in the 80
th and 82
nd minutes respectively. The Terriers notched the game's final goal at the 83:19 mark as the match saw four goals inside of the final quarter hour.
Savva scored his team-high third goal of the year while Palacio netted his first collegiate goal. Junior
Ben Kelly posted his team-best fourth assist of the season while sophomores
Phoenix Wooten and
Shane Lonergan each added an assist.
Harvard Highlights
- Junior Andreas Savva scored his team-high third goal of the year. He leads the Crimson with eight points on the year behind three goals and two assists. Savva netted his sixth career goal. Savva paced the Crimson in shots (three) and shots on goal (two) in the match.
- First-year Alejandro Palacio netted his first career goal on his equalizer in the 82nd minute.
- Junior Ben Kelly posted his team-best fourth assist of the year. He now has six career assists.
- Sophomore Phoenix Wooten notched his second assist of the season and of his career.
- Shane Lonergan tallied his first career assist for his first career point.
- Senior goalkeeper Lucian Wood made three saves.
- Among the Crimson's field players, sophomore center back Tim Langenbahn played the full 90 minutes.
- In the second half, Harvard led in shots (10-8) and shots on goal (5-3). For the match, each side registered six shots on goal while BU held a slight edge in shots (13-12).

How It Happened
- Sophomore Xavier Tanyi registered an early chance for the Crimson as his header off a corner kick required a save.
- BU went ahead 1-0 in the 11th minute as Quin DeLaMater scored off a free kick from Lapo Romieri.
- Wood made a save off a free kick in the 22nd minute and dove for a stop on a driven shot in the 42nd minute to keep Harvard within 1-0 at the break.
- Sophomore Alexander Castel sent a shot on goal with a header in the 54th minute before Wood made his third save of the match following a shot from BU's defensive half in the 68th minute.
- Harvard continued to pressure BU late in the match as Savva fired a shot just wide in the 70th minute prior to Lonergan driving a shot on target on the ensuing rebound.
- Kelly nearly broke through for the Crimson in the 73rd minute as his re-directed shot attempt carried just wide.
- The Terriers moved ahead 2-0 in the 77th minute as Ethan Gil sent a shot into the back of the net from inside the penalty area following a pass from Dylan Williams.
- Savva brought Harvard within 2-1 in the 80th minute. Following a touch from Lonergan, Kelly sent a pass over to Savva who slotted a one-timed, left-footed shot into the goal.
- Palacio equalized for Harvard in the 82nd minute. After the Crimson played a short corner, Wooten worked a pass to Palacio who evaded two defenders before sliding a shot into the goal.
- The visitors regained a 3-2 lead in the 84th minute. After Pharis Petrica played in a free kick, DeLaMater sent a header along to Aidan Kieffer who knocked a shot into an open goal.
- A free kick attempt from Savva tested the keeper in the 87th minute before the Terriers held on for the decision.
